Rescued Pet Adoption App
What makes Rescued unique?
Rescued streamlines pet adoption and care into a single product. Unlike other pet care apps, Rescued consolidates every feature a prospective and existing pet owner would need. Users can find pets to adopt, take care of their pet's needs, and connect with a helpful pet-owning community. Some of Rescued's features include video chat appointments with the potential pet, auto-shipping products, and services recommended specifically for the user's animal.
Contextual Inquiry
I gave two potential Rescued users the task to find a dog to adopt on the leading pet adoption app Petfinder.
Here are my observations and findings.

Zac C.
Needs and Wants
In order to save time and emotional energy surveying his options, Zac prefers to use an app or website before going into a shelter. He enjoys customizable apps where he can make a profile and interact with other pet lovers. When looking for a dog, his biggest deciding factor would be if the pet suits his lifestyle.

He enjoys customizable apps where he can make a profile and interact with other pet lovers. When looking for a dog, his biggest deciding factor would be if the pet suits his lifestyle.
Findings
Zac first surveyed the app and made an adopter profile where he inputted his ideal pet preferences. He also used the poll feature which allows other users to vote on which dog Zac should try to adopt. Zac then tried some of the pre-generated prompts to start browsing. He expressed that he’s interested in an app that includes other services, as remembering to buy food and finding a credible trainer has been difficult for him in the past.

Jackie M.
Needs and Wants
When looking for a dog to adopt, Jackie wants somewhere she can browse before going into the shelters. It is important that she can easily filter her searches with features like breed, distance, age, and size. She would love to be able to meet all her needs in one place. This includes shopping, care, and even resources like DNA testing.

Findings
Jackie immediately used filters to choose her three favorite dog breeds. Next, she filtered by age and distance. Jackie set the location to “anywhere” due to a lack of availability in her area, resulting in an overwhelming amount of profiles to choose from. Some profiles she viewed lacked a description which greatly impacted her decision to choose the dog. The filters were not very clear or obvious which ended up lengthening the amount of time it took for her to complete the task.

Impact/Effort Matrix
The impact/effort matrix helped inform me of the most logical yet impactful features to include in Rescued.
For example, I can tell that while a DNA testing component would be interesting, it would be difficult to pull off. The app would still be complete without it.
